Sealers soak into or coat the surface to reduce water and oil absorption, hold jointing sand in place and, with some products, bring out the colour. Different surfaces need different sealers, and applying the wrong one can leave a patchy or slippery finish.

How we seal paving
We clean the surface thoroughly, refill the joints and let everything dry. We then apply the sealer evenly in suitable weather, choosing between a natural-look and a wet-look finish if the surface allows it.
We keep traffic off while it cures and explain how long to leave it before use. We also tell you when it will need resealing.

Is sealing worth it?
Sealing is not essential for every surface, but it helps most on block paving, imprinted concrete and porous stone. It will not fix a damaged surface, and resin surfaces do not normally need it. We tell you honestly whether it will help yours.

How long does sealer last?
It varies with the product, traffic and weather. Many sealers need renewing every few years.
Will sealer make my paving slippery?
Some can. We choose products that keep good grip and avoid over-application.
Can I seal new paving?
Usually after a period for the surface to settle and any efflorescence to clear. We advise on timing.
Will sealing stop weeds?
It helps by locking in the jointing material, but weeds can still grow in debris on the surface.
