How we build a driveway
The surface is only the top few centimetres. Most failures start below it, so we dig out to the right depth, build a compacted sub-base in layers, set accurate levels and fall for drainage, and fit proper edge restraints before the final surface goes on.
We choose the surface with you: resin for a smooth clean finish, tarmac for value and durability, block paving for pattern and repairability, gravel for a natural look, or imprinted concrete for a stamped finish. We explain the trade-offs, including how each one weathers and what upkeep it needs.

Which driveway surface is right for me?
As a rule of thumb: resin suits people who want a smooth, low-maintenance finish and need water to drain through; tarmac suits larger drives and budgets where durability matters most; block paving suits anyone who wants a patterned finish that can be repaired block by block; gravel suits a relaxed, natural look; imprinted concrete suits people who want a stamped finish that looks like stone or brick. What affects the cost?
The cost of a new driveway depends on the area, the surface you choose, how deep we have to dig, whether the old surface has to be removed and taken away, the drainage required, the edging and any changes to levels or kerbs. We measure and inspect first and give a free written quote, so you know the price for the whole job before work starts.

Driveway Installation FAQs
How long does a new driveway take to install?
Most single driveways take a few days, depending on size, the surface and the weather. Resin and concrete need dry conditions and curing time. We give you an expected timescale in the quote.
Do I need planning permission for a new driveway?
Often not, but there are rules. In England, paving more than 5 square metres of front garden with a hard surface needs planning permission unless the surface is permeable or drains to a lawn or border within the property. Flats, conservation areas and some roads have extra controls. See our planning guide.
Can you remove my old driveway?
Yes. We can break out and remove an old driveway and take the waste away, or in some cases lay the new surface over a sound existing base. We will tell you which applies after inspecting it.
