The patios we are asked to replace have usually failed for the same reasons: a thin or missing base, no proper fall, and paving laid on soft ground. We build patios on a compacted sub-base with the right bedding and a fall that takes water away from the house, below the damp-proof course.

How we build a patio
We mark out and excavate, then build a compacted sub-base to suit the paving and use. Slabs are laid on a mortar bed with full support so they do not rock, with accurate levels and a fall away from the house. Joints are pointed or filled with a suitable jointing compound.
We build steps, borders, edging and walls to match, and we deal with drainage so water goes somewhere sensible. We leave the garden tidy and remove all waste.

How long does a patio take to build?
Many patios take a few days, depending on size and complexity. We give an expected timescale in the quote.
Do I need planning permission for a patio?
Most back-garden patios do not need it, but raised patios, listed buildings and conservation areas can have extra rules. We advise at the quote stage.
Can you remove my old patio?
Yes. We can break out and remove old paving and take the waste away.
Can you match my existing paving?
We can often match or complement existing paving, though colours change with weathering. We discuss the options on site.
