How we install imprinted concrete
The base is built from compacted sub-base, with edge shuttering to hold the concrete and reinforcement where the design calls for it. We pour, screed and float the concrete, apply colour hardener and release agent and stamp the pattern at the right time.
Control joints are cut so any shrinkage cracking follows planned lines rather than the pattern. After curing we pressure-wash the surface and apply a protective sealer, which brings out the colour and helps resist stains.

Is imprinted concrete right for me?
Imprinted concrete is not permeable, so a front garden over 5 square metres needs a drainage plan or other approach to meet the planning rules. It also cannot be repaired invisibly if it cracks, so we plan control joints carefully. If you want a patterned surface that is easy to repair and can be permeable, consider block paving.

Does imprinted concrete crack?
All concrete can crack. Control joints, a good base and the right mix reduce the risk and steer any cracks to planned lines. We explain this at the quote stage.
Does it need sealing?
Yes. Sealer protects the colour and surface and usually needs refreshing every few years, depending on use and weather.
Is it slippery?
The pattern and sealer can be chosen to give good grip. Moss and algae can make any surface slippery in shade, so cleaning helps.
Can it be repaired?
Small repairs are possible, but matching colour and pattern exactly is difficult. Where repairs are likely, other surfaces may be easier to maintain. See paving repairs.
