Concrete Driveways across London
Concrete is poured over a compacted sub-base inside edge formwork, levelled and finished. A brushed finish gives a non-slip surface; a smoother power-floated finish suits garages and internal areas. Reinforcement mesh and control joints are used where the design needs them.
It is a good choice for heavier vehicles and for people who want a simple, hard-wearing surface, and it can be a good base for later decorative finishes. See also imprinted concrete and commercial paving.

Why people choose concrete
- Very strong and well suited to heavier loads
- Simple, clean appearance with a brushed or smooth finish
- Long life with minimal maintenance when built correctly
- Cost-effective for larger areas
- A stable base for other finishes or a standalone surface

How we build a concrete driveway
Good concrete work is as much about preparation as the pour. We excavate and compact a sub-base, form the edges, set levels with falls for drainage, and place reinforcement where needed.
We pour in suitable conditions, screed and finish to a brushed or smooth texture, and cut or form joints so shrinkage cracks follow planned lines. The surface is protected while it cures to build strength and avoid damage.
How it works
Survey and plan
We measure, check levels and agree the finish, joints and drainage.
Base and formwork
We excavate, compact the sub-base and form the edges.
Pour and finish
We pour, level and finish the concrete and place joints.
Cure and handover
We protect the surface during curing and tell you when it can take weight.
Not sure which surface suits your property?
Resin, tarmac, block paving or stone: each has strengths. Tell us about your space and budget and we will recommend the right one and quote for it in writing.
Concrete or another surface?
Concrete is strong but plain. If you want a decorative look, imprinted concrete, block paving or resin may suit better. A concrete drive is not permeable, so front garden drainage rules still apply. See our planning guide.
What affects the cost?
The cost depends on the area, the thickness, the reinforcement, the finish, the access and the drainage. We give a free written quote after we have measured up and inspected the site.

Concrete Driveways FAQs
How long does concrete take to cure?
Walking is usually possible within a day or two, but concrete keeps gaining strength for weeks. We tell you when you can drive on it.
Will it crack?
Concrete shrinks as it cures, so joints are used to control where it cracks. A good base and mix reduce the risk.
Can concrete be coloured?
Yes. Colour can be added to the mix or applied as a hardener, and the surface can be stamped. See imprinted concrete driveways.
Can you lay concrete over my old driveway?
Sometimes, if the old surface is stable. Otherwise we remove it and lay a proper base first.
