Resin Bonded Driveways
Resin Bonded Driveways in London
Resin bonded driveways are made by spreading resin over a sound base and scattering stone into it. The result is a textured, grippy surface in a wide range of colours, and it is usually a more affordable way to refresh a driveway.

Resin Bonded Driveways across London
Because the stone sits on top of a thin resin layer rather than being mixed through it, a bonded finish is rougher than resin bound and is not designed to let water pass through. That makes the base and drainage plan especially important.
We use resin bonded where it is the right fit: over a sound existing tarmac or concrete base, on paths and ramps where grip matters, or where budget points to the simpler system. We will tell you straight if resin bound would suit you better.

When resin bonded makes sense
- The existing tarmac or concrete base is sound, flat and well drained
- You want a non-slip, textured surface for a path, steps or ramp
- Your budget points to the simpler system
- You like the look of loose-looking natural stone held firmly in place
- You can plan for water to run off to a suitable drain or soakaway

How we install resin bonded
The base must be clean, dry and stable. We repair cracks and defects, clean and prepare the surface, and set falls so water can run to a drain or soakaway. Where the base is poor, we recommend renewing it first rather than covering a problem.
The resin is applied in a measured layer and stone is broadcast over it until it is fully covered. Once cured, loose stone is swept off and the surface is ready. The finish is textured by design and gives good grip.
How it works
Inspect the base
We check the existing surface for cracks, movement and drainage.
Repair and prepare
We repair or renew the base and clean it thoroughly.
Apply resin and stone
We spread the resin and scatter the aggregate over it in dry weather.
Sweep and finish
After curing we remove the loose stone and hand the drive over with aftercare advice.
Not sure which surface suits your property?
Resin, tarmac, block paving or stone: each has strengths. Tell us about your space and budget and we will recommend the right one and quote for it in writing.
Resin bonded or resin bound?
Resin bonded is typically cheaper and more textured. Resin bound is smoother, usually permeable and the better choice for most front gardens. If your front garden is over 5 square metres and the surface is not permeable, a drainage plan or planning permission may be needed. See our resin bound vs resin bonded guide.
What affects the cost?
Resin bonded is usually less expensive per square metre than resin bound, but the price depends on how much base work is needed, the stone, the size of the area and the access. We give a free written quote after we have inspected the surface.

Resin Bonded Driveways FAQs
Is resin bonded permeable?
Generally no, because the resin forms a seal over the base. It needs a drainage plan so water runs to a suitable place. We design this into the quote.
Does it feel rough?
It is more textured than resin bound, which is why it grips well on slopes and paths. Some people find it less comfortable to walk on barefoot.
Can you lay it over existing tarmac?
Yes, if the tarmac is sound and well drained. We will inspect it and tell you whether it needs repairs first.
Will loose stones come off?
Some loose stone is swept off after curing. Afterwards, a well-laid surface holds firm, though the odd stone may lift in the first weeks.
