How Wide Should a Driveway Be?

One car
A space of about 4.8 metres long and 2.4 metres wide fits most cars, but doors will be tight. Around 3 metres wide is more comfortable.
Two cars
Side by side usually needs 5 to 6 metres or more. One behind the other needs enough length, which depends on the garden depth.
Dropped kerb width
Councils set their own limits on crossover width, so your driveway may be wider than the crossing. Check yours.
Turning space
If you cannot reverse onto the road safely, you may need space to turn on site.
Paths and bins
Leave room for a path to the door and somewhere for bins. See small front garden driveway ideas.
