What a sealer does

It soaks into or coats the surface to resist oil, dirt and moss, and can lock the jointing sand in place to reduce weeds.

The benefits

Easier cleaning, stronger colour, stain protection and fewer weeds.

The drawbacks

Poor application can leave a patchy or slippery surface. It can also make the paving less permeable, and needs reapplying.

When to seal

After a thorough clean and re-sand, when the surface is fully dry, and in suitable weather. Do not seal over damp or dirty paving.

Choosing a finish

Matt and satin finishes give a natural look and better grip than high gloss. See paving sealing.
