A realistic lifespan
With a sound base, good materials and sensible care, resin-bound surfaces are commonly expected to last in the region of fifteen to twenty-five years. Resin-bonded surfaces usually have a shorter life because the loose stone layer wears faster.
The base matters most
Resin is a thin finish. If the base cracks, sinks or holds water, the resin will crack with it. A properly built permeable base, or a sound existing tarmac or concrete base, is the best protection.
Materials and workmanship
UV-stable resin, clean dry aggregate and the right mix ratios all affect how the surface ages. Laying in wet or cold weather can leave weak patches. This is where an experienced installer earns their fee.
What shortens its life
Tree roots, standing water, heavy lorries turning on the spot and leaking oil can all cause damage. Blocked drainage and moss growth can also affect the surface.
Looking after it
Sweep regularly, jet wash gently when it is dirty and treat weeds early. See how to clean a resin driveway.
